UHMWPE ( HARD BALLISTICE )

Technical Data Sheet of STX-2

STX-2 Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) UD (uni-directional) fabric is popularly applied in the ballistic field of high-end rigid plate and helmet. It is composed of 2 layers of uni-directional Polyethylene fiber tapes cross-plied at the structure of 0°/90°.The material is composed of UHMWPE fiber and special resin matrix, which has super ballistic performance of V50 limitation, lightweight, and muti-hit, and it keep excellent performance in the temperature range from -40 to +65 .

The area density of 14kg/m2 is the recommended solution of plates for 7.62×39mm-M43 bullet with maximum speed at 728m/s.

All UD fabrics should be laid in the same orientation inside the ballistic panels after cut from the roll, which will make the best ballistic performance.

Processing Instruction of STX-2 UD Fabric

This file is applicable to produce hard plate with the thickness less than 22mm.

1. Material Preparation

  1. Cut the fabric into suitable dimension, and stack them with right plies. Ensure the surface is smooth and clean without defects and wrinkles;

  2. Put stack fabric between two release films or papers, one on the top and one at bottom.

  3. Put the Stack fabric into the mold and ensure it is at the center of the mold.

  4. Open the closing mold after 3-5s; observe and ensure that it has no displacement; make prompt adjustments and calibration to ensure it is not moved when open and close the molds.

2. Compression-Molding

  1. Close the mold. Keep the material pressure at 5 MPa, and raise the material temperature to 70℃.

  2. Increase the pressure to 10 Mpa, degas 2 times when the temperature rises to 75~85℃. Release the pressure to zero to degas. Degas 2 times when the temperature rises to 85~95℃.

  3. Close the mold and increase the pressure to 25 Mpa while heating up. When the mold temperature rises to 120℃, control the heat ramp slowly for overheat. Ensure the material temperature between 128~130℃, and the material temperature should not exceed 132 ℃. Keep this temperature and 25-Mpa pressure for 25min.

  4. Make records of the temperature and pressure for quality control, and the temperature include both mold and material one.

3. Cooling

  1. Keep constant pressure at 25MPa and cool down the mold.

  2. When the material temperature is below 50℃, open the mold and take out the plates.
